Them: Why did you get a sun tattoo on your wrist?
Me: Because I’m the sunshine in everyone’s life, duh.
(That’s genuinely what I tell people when they ask me about my sun tattoo. I mostly just say it because (a) the real story is too long & (b) it’s really fun to watch people’s reactions after I respond like that.)
After my first tattoo experience I hadn’t even considered getting another tattoo, but as you all know my life never goes as expected. It was just another day in the life of me and I was at my apartment in San Diego hanging out with both of my roommates and cousin. We were sitting in the living room eating pizza and having random conversations. My roommate, cousin, and me then started talking about each of our first tattoo experiences. In no way were we planning on getting tattoos, so I don’t know how the idea of “let’s all go get matching tattoos right now” happened (and by we I mean my roommates and me). By this time it was maybe 10 o’clock and we started Pinteresting ideas. We got the idea of a sun, moon, and star. I immediately called dibs on the sun. I have always genuinely had a thing for the sun. I prefer hot over cold, day over night, fire over ice, etc. (also, that’s when I got the idea of “I’m the sunshine in everyone’s life” and I knew that would be super fun to say) Even though it was only 11 o’clock we realized a lot of tattoo shops close early. Luckily we called and found one shop that was staying open late and we rushed over there. Getting a tattoo the second time around wasn’t nearly as bad as the first time. I knew what to expect. Of course, that didn’t stop me from holding my roommate’s hand. One thing I will proudly say is that I didn’t cry this time. Instead, I laughed in the middle of getting tattooed… which caused my sun to be a bit crooked. But, I wouldn’t be a hot mess if this story was oh so perfect!
It was a fun and spontaneous adventure that I’ll remember forever and never regret.
Fun fact: whenever I catch a glimpse of my tattoo I always think it’s a bug crawling on me and I completely freak out… (I’ve had it for about 5 months now)
Sassy as ever, Karla
